When I have been to Italy, the first thing that catches me was the iced orange drink. I have wondered what was that and more importantly why didn’t I know it or see it before?

Then I made my researches. That was Aperol Spritz or with the old name Venetian Spritz.
Aperol designed as an aperativo, before meal drink, in 1919, Padua, Italy by Barbieri Brothers.
Spritz is an Austrian invention. Because at 1800s Austria had the control of Venice under the Habsburg Empire. And not the soldier also the aristocrats and the riches were living there and they didn’t use to with the wine of those areas. Those wines had more alcohol than traditional Austrian wines. Because of that people start to want “sprtizen” wines, diluted with fresh water.
The original spritz was made with sparkling white wine and red wine diluted with water.
In the early 20th century, bartender or only a just person add the spritz a dash of Aperol in Venice, thereby the popular cocktail was born!
