Count Camillo Negroni

Italy has different, tasty and worldwide phenomenon cocktails. Negroni is one of them.

Very easy to do it so it is everyone’s favorite, easier to make, easier to drink. That’s the key.

We have to mention the Americano cocktail and talk about its origin before coming to the Negroni because it is the father.

Americano was born in the 1860s in Italy at Caffe Camparino, Milan. Campari, Vermouth, and a dash of soda with a lemon slice. Of course, the name was not the Americano, so why we are calling it like this?
Prohibition in the USA made the perfect contribution to cocktail history. When the American tourists travel this cocktail became their favorite one in Italy and started to call as Americano.

Caffe Camparino in Milano

When we hit 1919, Count Camillo Negroni was at the Caffe Casani and wanted to drink a cocktail. So he asked his friends and the bartender Fosco Scarselli, make me a cocktail like Americano but harder than it.

Fosco made a twist and replaced soda with gin and lemon slice with orange. And BOOM! Fosco hit the bullseye and everyone liked that cocktail but Fosco didn’t put a name on it. So people started to call it Negroni’s cocktail, Negroni’s choice, and then shortly Negroni.

Birthplace of Negroni but change name as Giacosa

Negroni family saw the possibilities and they have established Negroni Distillery and started to make a ready-made version and called it Antico Negroni. Now the distillery is still running but owners are changed.

This story reminds me Early Grey Tea story, and now I want to make myself tea, OMG what happens to me?
