Prohibition times bring us so many different drinking habits and cocktails. In fact in the USA, cocktails became more popular during prohibition times because of the spirit’s bad tastes.

For that kind of old cocktail, always there are different stories, Southside has two stories.

One claimed that this cocktail was created in the Southside of Chicago. During the prohibition times, the north side and south side has different gangsters, Al Capone was the head of the south side mafia and at those times he and his man bring the spirits illegally or people produced spirits in their bathtubs. The north side drank their Gin only with ginger ale because that gin didn’t need any sweetener in it but the Gin of the south side was bitter and needed sweeteners. Thus, the Southside was born! They added lemon, sugar and water into the gin.

The second story is not very entertaining, there was a club called Long Island Southside Club, changed gin instead of bourbon while making mint julep and ta daaaa Southside was born!
